A man named Robert Collins was looking for a job and had an interview with the Maryland Department of Corrections. His interviewer demanded his Facebook password. I think this is a complete invasion of privacy and should NOT be allowed. In the passage it says, ",started sifting through his personal messages and photos to make sure Collins didn’t “have any gang affiliation." Honestly, Facebook has nothing to do with 'gang affiliation' and it doesn't even tell you half of what a persons life is like. The employer should take the future employees word for it and not have to creep through his personal privacy. Other bills, like one sent to Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe last week, forbid higher education institutions from asking students for access to their social media accounts." I couldn't agree with this more. I am going into college soon and the last thing I want is to have a professor demand to see my personal information, pictures, statuses, messages, etc. This has nothing to do with a college student and their education. There shouldn't be anything on a social media site that a teacher or an employer should have to go out of their way to look at. I agree that there should be a law forbidding employers and educational instructors from asking employees and students for their passwords on social networking sites because it is more than anything an invasion of privacy.
Another reason I agree that there should be a law forbidding employers from asking employees for social networking passwords is because no one should have to feel like they are being watched at all times and also feel like they are part of the lower class of workers. “In this job market, especially, employers clearly have the upper hand,” a sponsor of the New Jersey bill recently said. “Demanding this information is akin to coercion when it might mean the difference between landing a job and not being able to put food on the table for your family.” Yes, it may put the food on the table for your family, BUT, is it morally right? The answer is no. No one should make someone do something they really don't feel comfortable with or agree with. "These proposals have spread at lightning speed despite a dearth of data about how many employers or school administrators out there are actually demanding access to Facebook pages or Twitter feeds." There is no way a teacher is getting my one password that I use for everything. It's not right to demand this type of information from someone who is completely innocent in a situation and has done nothing wrong. I feel like these people just want control. That's all they want. But it's not right to have that kind of control. If a teacher or an employer asked me for my password, I'd demand theirs in turn. I guarantee they wouldn't like that and would back off. I agree that there needs to be a law banning teachers and employers from asking people for their passwords because it's an invasion of privacy and no one should have complete control over what someone wants and doesn't want to do.
