Study shows that many high school football players would continue to play the game and not warn their coach while having concussion like symptoms from an on-field injury. I think that this is very dangerous and that high school coaches and athletic trainers should do something about this. 53% of students out of 120 student survey, said they would "always or sometimes continue to play with a headache sustained from an injury," and only 54 percent indicated they would "always or sometimes report symptoms of a concussion to their coach." This is extremely dangerous because concussions are nothing to play around with or ignore. They can lead to death if they are not properly accounted and taken care of. In the passage it also states, "Other approaches, such as an increased use of sideline screening by coaches or athletic trainers, might be needed to identify injured athletes." I agree that sideline screenings should take place. Sometimes players are not aware that their injury may be serious so they continue to play not knowing the circumstances they are in. Sideline screenings would make circumstances safer for athletes. I think that athletes playing through concussion like symptoms is very dangerous and the fate of the players should be taken into consideration.
I think that something needs to be done about athletes continuing to play through their symptoms because many could die or develop much more harsh injuries. "It is estimated that up to 3.8 million sports-related concussions occur in the United States every year – and concussions make up approximately 8.9 percent of all high school athletic injuries." Concussions are extremely common sports especially football. This is why something needs to be done about the players. People who have not had a concussion before aren't aware of the symptoms of a concussion. Coaches everywhere should sit down and discuss what to do when having these certain symptoms. "Further study on concussion education in adolescent athletes and on ways to identify high school athletes who have sustained a concussion would be useful." This knowledge would help tremendously in knowing when athletes should be pulled from a game and be checked out. The athletes life is more important than missing part of a game. I think that actions need to be taken towards athletes and concussions because they are serious injuries and they could easily be fatal towards an athlete.
